| iran's weapon of mass awesomeness! (ha! i'm topical!) |
[08 Dec 2008|09:49am] |
alex's bellydancing music was a gateway drug to the PURE CRACK LOVE that is arash. behold:
i think the real threat from iran is not political or military but cultural: their pop music eats ours for breakfast.
ARASH !!!!!!!!!!!! <3<3<3<3

| self-reflection |
[04 Dec 2008|03:31pm] |
sometimes i wish i'd been born about 10 to 15, years earlier than i was so i could have basked in all the glory of the 1980s. ideally in the uk, squatting with boy george.
but see, that's the problem. if i had been born any earlier, i would have settled for a marriage of convenience with my best gay, been fabulous but angsty, and raised twisted children.
see! everything happens for a reason.

| game plan for saturday |
[14 Nov 2008|03:50pm] |
we have plans to meet up with a bunch of friends at Java Green (19th between L and M) at noon for lunch, then metro over to the Mall. the protest itself starts at 1:30, at the Reflecting Pool, then will march to the White House.
yes, it's going to rain. yes, your hair will suffer. but you can wear your cutest boots or galoshes FOR GREAT JUSTICE.
holla if you want to go but need a posse. this is going to be HUGE, people, and you don't want to miss being a part of it.
remember that there would be no backlash if we hadn't already made such progress. america will achieve marriage equality, but not without the will to demand it.

if you didn't see it, this is why i'm now going officially on record as offering to have keith olbermann's turkey baster babies. he's choking up, and i love him for it:
and to lighten the mood, a cat playing with a box. thank you, japan, for keeping things real:

| pretentious question of the day |
[10 Nov 2008|09:41am] |
do you have a preferred translation or english edition of Madame Bovary? i've only ever read it in en francais! i want to use it in my spring seminar, but i don't know what to order from the bookstore and i'd hate to offend flaubert with a translation not according to le mot juste, you know?
carry on.

| is it me? |
[17 Sep 2008|07:00pm] |
or is anyone else annoyed by the statement "together at last" regarding the casting of deniro and pacino in "righteous kill"?
does "godfather ii" ring a bell? admittedly, they never shared a scene, but each of their performances made it such an excellent film.
